Trig Solberg
Trygve “Trig” Solberg was born and raised in Marion, Wisconsin. In 1962, he began his service in the US Army Security Agency and was honorably discharged in 1965. He then attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and graduated in January 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Trig is an innovative entrepreneur who began his career in the food retail industry in 1971, alongside his wife Tula, in Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin, with a small single Red Owl store. What started as a single grocery store has become so much more, yet Trig’s still has been able to remain an independent grocer. Today, Trig’s is one of the few independent grocers and a respected brand amongst others in the grocery industry.
Trig’s business acumen allowed him to grow into multiple industries creating what is truly “a collection of companies” unique to the Northwoods. The T.A. Solberg Company now includes five supermarket locations, four shell gas stations, two Ace Hardware operations, three Caribou Coffee retail stores, three Postal Express locations, three Tone Zone Fitness Center locations, Trig’s Smokehouse - a smoked meat production facility, ice plant, a central kitchen operation, a centralized floral operation, a trucking department, a Minocqua Recycling Center, and Signature Salon. The T.A. Solberg Company and other entities employ over 600 associates.
Trig currently holds the position of Chairman of the T.A. Solberg Co., Inc. and under his stewardship, the company remains focused on growth and diversification.
Trig is a past chairman of the Wisconsin Grocers Association and, in 1998, was honored with their prestigious Grocer of the Year Award. In 2019, he was presented with The National Grocers Association’s (NGA) distinguished Thomas K. Zaucha Entrepreneurial Excellence Award.
